Hymns for the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany in Year C, Revised Common Lectionary


A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany, Year C.

Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing.  Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included.  A small selection of hymns that are still be copyright may also included where they are a particularly good for for the theme(s).

Readings

First: Nehemiah 8: 1-3, 5-6, 8-10 - Ezra read to the people from the Book of the Law.  The people were moved to tears by God's word.  Ezra announced a day of feasting for "this day is sacred to our Lord".

Psalm: Psalm 19 - The heavens are telling the glory of God

Second: I Corinthians 12: 12-30a - Together you are all Christ's body, but each of you is a different part of it.

Gospel: Luke 4:14-21 - Luke's account of Jesus return to Nazareth, and his reading in the temple "The spirit of the Lord has been given to me ...  to bring good news to the poor ..."
