A selection of hymns and songs, based on themes from the Revised Common lectionary for the Sunday of Proper thirteen / eighteenth Sunday of Ordinary time, Year B.
Most are free-to-use (ie public domain or copyright-free) meaning the words can be copied and sung to at least one tune with no concerns about copyright or performance licensing. Many such hymns are old/traditional - but where possible a variety of styles / genres are included. A small selection of hymns which are, or may be, still copyright are also included where they are a particularly good for for the theme(s).
Suggestions about other hymns that could be included are welcome: leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of the page.
Seasonal Note
St Mark’s Gospel is the main one used in Year B. But between now and the end of August, the Gospel is mostly from John 6, presenting Jesus as the Bread of Life. It may be helpful to plan these weeks as one season, spreading your known "Eucharist" themed hymns through the weeks.Readings
First:2 Samuel 11:26 – 12:13a - The prophet |Nathan is send by the Lord to tell David about the Lord's judgement of his sinful behaviour with Bathsheba.
OR
Exodus 16:2-4, 9-15 - God provides manna from heaven for the people following Moses and Aaron in the desert ...and the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.
with Psalm 77 - The Lord gave them bread from heaven
Second: Ephesians 4:1-16 - Paul asks the people to live with humility, gentleness, patience, bearing with one another in love, maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace: there is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all. ... But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ's gift ... we must grow up in every way into Christ who is the head
